The end users of these systems are part of an organization (tenant) with a subscription to the Software-as-a-Service application. Tenant data is sandboxed and role based access is managed by the organization. These systems support plan / feature subscription, UI customization & branding, external integrations, API access and more - all on a tenant by tenant basis.
Includes "traditional" OLTP systems - highly concurrent, online ACID transaction processing with a relational database and a scalable middle tier - as well as "big data" systems performing asynchronous stream/batch processing with frameworks like Apache Spark.
